Our Group Leadership Team comprises leaders from all areas of our business, who between them have almost 200 years of FMCG experience locally and overseas.

Our Leadership

Despite not being listed locally, we have decided to retain the best of the public company model through our balanced board structure, combining experienced local board directors and representatives of our parent company Kirin, who offer a wealth of experience in food and beverages across Asia.Lion has a robust corporate governance framework, which is summarised here. Lion’s Competition and Consumer Law Compliance can be found here. 

Lion supports the Australian Government’s Voluntary Tax Transparency Code (“the Code”) as a key platform to better inform public debate about tax policy and to increase transparency to the wider community. We strongly believe that sustainable financial results come from generating genuine societal value and offering full transparency about the way we approach tax risk management. Meet our Group Leadership Team and Board below:

  • Stuart Irvine

    Lion Chief Executive Officer

    Stuart Irvine was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Lion in January 2013. Prior to Lion, Stuart was CEO of Nestle Russia and Eurasia, a $2 billion company with 14 production sites and 10,000 people.

    Stuart’s career in Nestle started in 1998 as Sales Director for the UK “Friskies” pet care business. In 2002 he was appointed Group Sales Director and Managing Director of Foodservices Nestle UK.

    Over the next ten years he held various Managing Director and CEO roles within the UK and Europe, covering such countries as Spain, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland and the Baltics, before moving to Russia. Stuart has extensive knowledge of fast moving consumer goods, sales and marketing having also worked for Proctor and Gamble and Spillers Pet foods.

  • James Brindley

    Managing Director, Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine Australia

    James Brindley was appointed Managing Director Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine Australia in October 2009. James joined the business as a Business Analyst in 1994, and moved through a number of finance, strategy and procurement roles before being appointed to the role of Commerical Director in 2004.

  • Libby Davidson

    Lion Group General Counsel and External Relations Director

    Libby Davidson was appointed as Lion’s Group General Counsel & External Relations Director in 2015, following her appointment as Group General Counsel in 2014.  In this role, Libby leads the Legal External Relations and Nutrition team and is Lion’s Company Secretary and Sustainability Director.

    Libby first joined Lion Nathan Limited in 2005, as Deputy General Counsel.  Since then, following Kirin’s acquisition of Lion Nathan and the subsequent merger with National Foods, Libby has performed various roles within the Legal External Relations and Nutrition team, including responsibility for Group-wide competition law, mergers & acquisitions, Board governance, trademarks & intellectual property, food regulation & policy and Sustainability.  She is a Director on the Board of Bevchain, Lion’s warehousing and distribution JV with Linfox and also sits on the Board of Trustees of Lion’s NZ Employee Benefit Plan.  Prior to joining Lion, Libby spent 10 years with PepsiCo and Tricon Restaurants International, in various in-house roles supporting the Pepsico/Tricon businesses in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, UK and Europe.

     

  • Rory Glass

    Managing Director, Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine New Zealand

    Rory Glass joined Lion in 2001 as National Accounts Director, where he was responsible for the off-trade market. He has subsequently held a variety of senior sales and marketing roles, including the role of National Sales and Marketing Director prior to his current position. Rory was appointed Managing Director, Lion Beer, Spirits & Wine New Zealand in June 2011. Prior to his time with Lion, Rory was a Senior Category Manager at Progressive Enterprises.

  • Rob McKenzie

    Group Supply Chain and Technical Director

    Rob McKenzie was appointed Group Supply Chain and Technical Director for the Lion group in October 2009, having held the role at Lion Nathan since April 2004. In this role Rob leads teams across technical, strategic sourcing, logistics and environmental areas and also has strategic overview of total Lion group operations. Rob first joined Lion in November 1993 and has held a number of senior operational and supply chain roles within the beer, spirits & wine and dairy businesses. He has extensive FMCG supply chain industry experience with over 30 years in the brewing and malting industry (in Australia and the United Kingdom) and more recently in dairy as well. 

  • Matt Tapper

    Managing Director - Lion Global Markets

    Matt Tapper was appointed Managing Director - Global Markets following its establishment on 1 October 2015.  Matt previously held the position of National Marketing Director for Lion’s Beer, Spirits & Wine business in Australia.

    He commenced his career in New Zealand with Mars before moving to the UK and working with Dairy Crest. He returned to New Zealand, joined Lion and has had a number of Sales & Marketing roles. Matt relocated to Sydney with Lion 12 years ago.

    He recently completed a Global Executive MBA, studying in Sydney, Bangalore, Silicon Valley & London. He was elected as Chair of the AANA in November 2015.

  • Stephanie Nixon

    Lion Chief Financial Officer

    Stephanie was appointed Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Lion at the beginning of 2015, having previously held the role of Finance Director for Lion’s Australian beer business. As CFO, Stephanie leads the Company’s functions in finance and accounting, strategy, tax, treasury, shared services, audit and risk management, information technology and corporate development. Stephanie first joined Lion in 2000 and has over 20 years’ experience in the FMCG industry, having worked at Glaxo Smithkline and Unilever prior to Lion. Stephanie has a Degree in Business, a Masters in Management and is a CPA.

  • Alicia Purtell

    People & Culture Director - Lion

    Alicia holds a BA from Sydney University, a Post Graduate Certificate in Business from MGSM, a Masters of Coaching Psychology from Sydney University. She is also currently completing a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychology at Sydney University.

    Alicia is currently the P&C Director of Lion and has worked in a variety of Human Resource roles in leading organisations including Citibank and Westpac.

    While working part-time as the Research Director for Lion, Alicia also worked as a Senior Associate with The Positivity Institute, consulting with organisations about how to create flourishing individuals and teams.

    Alicia uses evidence-based skills in coaching and leadership to create change in organisations and people.

  • Sir Rod Eddington AO - Chairman, Independent Non–Executive Director

    B.Eng.(Hons)(UWA), M.Eng.Sci.(UWA), Hon.LLD(UWA), D.Phil.(Oxon)

    Sir Rod Eddington was appointed as Chairman to the board of Lion in March 2012, having been appointed to the board in March 2011. One of Australia’s most experienced and accomplished business leaders, Sir Rod had a long career in the aviation industry and is a former CEO of Cathay Pacific Airways, Executive Chairman of Ansett and CEO of British Airways. In 2005, Sir Rod was awarded a Knighthood by the British Government for services to civil aviation. Along with a number of non-executive directorships, Sir Rod also serves as President of Australia Japan Business Cooperation Committee.

  • Gavin Walker - Independent Non–Executive Director

    B.C.A

    Gavin Walker has had a long career in investment banking, having previously held the roles of Chief Executive of Bankers Trust Australia Investment Bank and member of the Business Council of Bankers Trust Company in New York

    Mr Walker was appointed to the Board of Lion in March 2000 and is a member of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee. In addition, Mr Walker is Chairman of Kirin’s International Advisory Board.

    Other current directorships include; Chairman of ASB Bank (the New Zealand subsidiary of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CBA)), Chairman of Sovereign Insurance (a New Zealand health and life insurance business owned the CBA). Gavin is also Chairman of  Commonwealth Securities which is the largest on-line retail stock broking business in Australasia.

    Mr Walker is Deputy Chairman of the Guardians of the New Zealand Superannuation Fund; a government agency responsible for managing assets of NZD 20 billion to fund future government superannuation liabilities.

  • Paula Dwyer - Independent Non–Executive Director

    B.Comm, FCA, FAICD, F.Fin

    Paula Dwyer was appointed to the Board of Lion in March 2012 and is Chair of the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee.

    Ms Dwyer had an executive career in finance, holding senior positions in investment management at Calibre Asset Management, investment banking at Ord Minnett (now J P Morgan) and chartered accounting at Price Waterhouse. Ms. Dwyer specialised in corporate advisory and equity capital markets including takeovers, capital raisings, trade sales and privatization.

    Ms Dwyer is a professional company director and is presently Chairman of Tabcorp Holdings Limited, Independent Non-Executive Director of ANZ, and Chairman of the Board Audit Committee. Ms Dwyer is also a Member of the Takeovers Panel.

    In the not-for-profit sector Ms Dwyer is a member of the Geelong Grammar School Council,  a member of the Board of the Business and Economics Faculty at the University of Melbourne and Chair of the the Geminder Family Company.

  • Ryosuke Mizouchi - Non-Executive Director

    Bachelor of Economics (HIT)、MBA (MIT Sloan School of Management)

    Mr. Ryosuke Mizouchi was appointed as Non-Executive Director of the Lion Board in March 2017.  Mr. Mizouchi previously served as an Executive Director of the Lion Board from 2010 to 2012, and Non-Executive Director from 2012 to 2015.

    Mr. Mizouchi has been with Kirin group companies since 1982, mainly in marketing insight, international business, and corporate planning departments, and is currently a Director of the Board and Senior Executive Officer of Kirin Company, Limited, overseeing the Creating Shared Value (CSV) function of the whole group.

  • Fumio Miki - Executive Director

    Bachelor of Commerce/Business Management (HIT), PMD Harvard Business School (Harvard)

    Mr. Fumio Miki was appointed as an Executive Director of the Lion Board in March 2012. Mr. Miki joined Kirin Holdings Company Limited in 1985. During his career he has gained a wealth of experience in the beer and soft drink markets, particularly in strategic planning and execution, and has held various senior positions including Manager Corporate Planning Department of Kirin Brewery, Manger Corporate Planning Department of Kirin Beverage Corporation, CFO Kirin International and most recently, Director Koiwai-Dairy Company, Limited.

  • Shobu Nishitani - Non-Executive Director

    B.A in Commerce (Waseda University); PMD Harvard Business School (Harvard)

    Mr Shobu Nishitani was appointed as a Non-Executive Director of the Lion Board in March 2016. Mr Nishitani joined Kirin Brewery Company Limited in 1987 and throughout his career has held a number of senior finance and accounting positions across the Kirin Group, including Executive Financial Advisor and Deputy GM Finance and Accounting. Mr Nishitani is currently Director Group Finance of Kirin Holdings Company Limited.
